I'm glad Zherdev is gone.....Although I don't follow Cbus too often, everyone said he wasn't playing up to his full potential.  Good riddens.....

It is scary how little these former #1 and #2 Columbus draft picks were worth.   Combine that with top pick Brule only worth Torres, it speaks volumes.

Say what you want about Zherdev, but he had 61 pts last year and seemed to be picking his game up...lets not forget CBus had him there as a teen and gave him no development time in the minors, which is almost always bad...he's still a kid, as is Fritsche....I think they took WAY less than they could have gotten...the 2 players they got are average d-men at best..definietly 2 guys you do NOT give up your 24 year old, 2nd in team scoring player and another up and comong youngster with NHL experience....I'm sure they could have done better for better talent or at least high draft choices...I don't know what they are thinking...Brule shouldn't be bashed either..he was a KID in the NHL....he would have done better in the minors for a couple years..you are NUTS if you think Torres was an equal trade there...they bring these kids right into the NHL, let them keep their bad habits, then give them away...mark my words, these kids will flourish on their new teams..and Columbus will NOT make the playoffs again..I do not think they have improved their team at all ...

Re: Zherdev and Fritsche Traded To The Rangers

Yes all three trade by Columbus had actually no time in the minors. If Fritche had more than a couple games with us he might have been a lot better but he is still a fourth line center. I like Dan a lot but he is not anything more than what he is. Brule is known for be lazy from what I hear and likes to party. Will that change maybe but one has to work even if they have a huge amount of talent. From what he did as a member of the Crunch I was not impressed one little bit. If not for the hat trick against Albany he was horrible in the minors. Yes he is only 21 but has a lot of work to do to make it. Now Zherdev is a different story as he has shown he can play and the Blue Jackets needed D men and they got him with the one player that had any stock as a NHL player. 61 points is a great year by most in the NHL and yes he will probably flourish in NY. I am happy to see him as a Ranger and will not deny it but he was all Columbus had to make deals with.

I am a Ranger fan and think this was an equal trade. The Rangers got a replacement for Avery in Fritche and added Zherdev and hopefully they can re sign Jagr now. But the Blue Jackets got exactly what they needed defense. To say Tyutin and Backman are average as a Ranger fan I have to disagree but they were a dump for the signings made by the Rangers. Are they a top pair maybe not but they are at least a high second pairing and both have offensive skill so the Jackets have a great defense now. They also added Huselius and that replaces Zherdev so they are much better that they were last season. It is funny to me that everyone hates to let players go when they were not winning with them. Columbus made it perfectly clear if your name was not LeClaire or Nash you could be traded this off season. I love what Columbus has done and they have more to do as thy still have a ton of cash to get more players. Columbus has done what it needs to do and they did not trade away their future either so that benefits us as well. Columbus was not winning with what they had so they got rid of those players. They are looking a lot like the Crunch team now as well. Big and Strong with a couple skilled guys. Will they win the cup this season NO but will compete better than they have in the past and probably will make the playoffs.

Umberger, Torres, Tyutin, Backman, Commodore, and Huselius all I can say is wow. No they are not Campbell, Redden, or Hossa but they did not want to come to Columbus. So Columbus did what they needed to do. If they can trade for a # 1 Center then they will be a force if not they will be the team no one wants to play. Sound Familiar??????

“It’s unbelievable,” said Fritsche, 22, who was the first Ohio native to play for the Blue Jackets. “I couldn’t be more excited. I’m going to a Stanley Cup contender with an abundance of talent.”

Tell us how you really feel there Dano.

Very true but seems like Dan did not want to play for the Blue Jackets. Detroit got a great deal on Hossa ! Sorry just sounds like Hossa wanted a ring and hope he does not get one! Detroit already won and will bet another team wins it. If not Freak Zilla I owe you a dinner

I love each and every move they have made.  We will see Russell this year and might have to cross our fingers for one of the other defensemen to clear waivers.

Hejda, Klesla, OTK, Rome, Commodore, Tyutin and Backman will all be in Columbus.

Methot will be on the bubble [does he have to clear waivers this year ?]

We will see Russell, Wilson, Sigalet, Holden, Hendrikx, Clitsome and I hope Smith.

So would anyone like to see this in Syracuse

    Methot - Russell

    Wilson - Smith

    Sigalet - Holden

Re: Zherdev and Fritsche Traded To The Rangers

Warlock, now now just because the Rangers will have to wait a while longer. LOL

A great deal for Hossa ? I kinda agree with that but I'm thinking more like another brilliant deal by Ken Holland. He signed him to a One year deal for now just to buy him the time and cap space to get Zetterberg and Franzen re-signed before they hit the market after next season. The big picture in all of this is brilliance in motion by Holland. He signs Hossa to a One year deal now, then leaves flexibility to take care of the guys on the team that he will need to care of and at the same time while all of that is happening, works on getting Hossa signed to a long term deal before he hits the market AFTER he gets the key guys signed long term.

From a hockey standpoint, Hossa is a perfect fit for this team, he is an excellent backchecker who will fit extremely well in Babcock's system and could potentially score 40-50 goals a season there. People critisize Detroit as "buying" all of the good players. Let's all remember something here, this isn't like MLB where the Yankees just go out every year and overpay for players and continuously try to "buy" their way to Championships (which is great that they haven't had success at that for how long now? ), do we honestly think that the Yankees would be good at all if MLB had a hard salary cap ? I really do not think that Brian Cashman would be able to work the magic that Ken Holland does. Let's keep in mind that Detroit is playing under the same financial structure as the rest of the league, the difference is that Ken Holland knows how to master the system and get the players that they want. He could have given Hossa a long term deal right now, BUT he would have put himself in position to lose 2 key players after next season by doing that, so he signs him to this deal for now, takes care of business, and then signs him long term.

Obviously Hossa thought that Pittsburgh was a one hit wonder (I like to call them arrogance on ice) and in all likely hood they are, I would not be surprised if Pittsburgh didn't even make the playoffs this coming season or if they do , get beat in the first round. They have all of their money tied up in 3 players (Crosby, Malkin, Fleury) with not much room left to do anything else. Then looking at the big picture for Pittsburgh, they are going to have to try to figure out a way to get Staal signed after this season which there ya go just about all of their money tied up in just 4 players with no room to maneuver and more players will be leaving town. Look at how many players on Detroit's roster have been there long term and look at how many have left and returned. Detroit is a very very classy organization both on the ice and off. Honestly they pretty much destroyed Pittsburgh in the Finals, take away that 3 OT game and they (Pitts.) lose the series 4-1. Crosby and Terrien <sp?> were too busy whining to the officials because they were confusing overall team speed and an aggresive forchecking and backchecking system for obstruction.

I love all the Silver chalices being brought into town now, I was a fan back during all of those lean years. Ya gotta admit, they are playing under the same financial system that everybody else is, ya can't hate them because they are creative and figure out ways to make the system work to their benefit and other teams don't and sink their money into 3 or 4 players. There is a reason that it is called HOCKEYTOWN.

Warlock - dinner ? Well on that note then I'd like some filet mignon and you can have a sampling of ummmm Octopus. LOL Beer

Ok, I got to go now, the twins are crying.......  Hold on Sydney and Evgeni, I'll be right there !

Oh and in all of that, I forgot to mention the loyalty aspect. Ken Holland and Mike Ilitch clearly stated that they would not sign any player to a contract worth more than Niklas Lidstom makes (7.5 mil) and hows this for loyalty - Chelios has said that he would re-sign with Detroit for league minimum this coming season, yeah he is just about done but he is held in high regards on that team and in that city and he will probably be the next member of the Front Office joining Stevie Y. I wouldn't mind seeing Cheli head into the coaching ranks after he is done, maybe coaching Grand Rapids.

Chris Chelios has always been one of my favorite players, and always the model of a true pro for the younger players.  I was lucky enough to meet him several times when he played with the Blackhawks and he always made time for the fans.  Chris Chelios is a sure hall of famer as a player and would definately be one as a coach down the line.  But Hossa?  He states repeatedly he wants a long term deal with a contender, then contradicts himself and goes back to being a rental again.

Crunch season tickets for family-$1,460, Beer at games-$22.50, Ulcers from Columbus management-$$Priceless$$

He won't be a "rental player". read my previous post, Ken Holland is on record as saying that he did the one year deal so they could get Zetterberg and Franzen re-signed and then they are going to do a long term deal with Hossa during the season.

And to be honest Detroit schooled Pittsburgh in the Finals, his best shot to win is in Detroit. Pittsburgh was just a good team in a weak conference as compared to the Western Conference. Any team from the West, Dallas, Anaheim, Detroit would have done the same thing to Pittsburgh. The West is where the best teams are.

that would be your opinion, The Eastern teams play a more watchable style of hockey. More oldtime. I'll take the east anyday!

My opinion but there are facts to back it up, like 8 out of the past 12 Stanley Cup winners have come out of the Western Conference. In 22 years since the President's Trophy came along, it has been won by a Western Conference team 16 out of 22 years. The East is a slow lumbering style of play that could lull someone to sleep, then all of a sudden a speedy Western team gets a hold of that type in the Finals and takes it to them (see Pittsburgh - for all of whatever Crosby thinks he is - he looked really slow against a team with speed throughout it's lineup during the Finals to the point he was whining and crying with his coach because they were confused about the difference between speed and obstruction). The recent #'s don't lie. Yes it is my opinion and I would much rather watch a fast paced end to end game with solid goaltending than muck and grind any day and not only is it my opinion but the #'s back it up.
